At least I have been busy. Work has been busy with the Q1 close and I have been trying to ride my bike more. This past weekend I was in Fruita and Grand Junction for a three day weekend for the Trek Bicycle Store Team Camp and now I am getting ready to have my Mom and sister Reagan in town.

I am still currently busy with work and trying to edit video from the team camp and give all due respect to all of the sponsors playing part in the team. I am trying to have the project done before the Mom and Reagan show up on Thursday night as well as cleaning up and getting my riding in. For now a few pictures from this weekend taken by my teammate Les and a trailer to the main feature video that will be ready hopefully tomorrow night or Thursday!

PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY MOTHER "DOWNSTAIRS DONNA!"

Climbing
<img style="display:block; The day went on as usual with work and lots of it trying to get some things done ahead of time to make the quarter close a little more smooth especially since my boss is out with his wife having their baby. I don't want him to have to worry about anything except getting the little guy home and cozy.

For the birthday dinner I headed over to Rob and Megans'. They are two great friends and always willing to have me over for dinner. Tim and Megan's sister were there as well and we had a nice little BBQ enjoying the warm weather that has been upon Boulder.

I considered my trip to Moab this past weekend the time to celebrate my birthday even though we actually got together with Lincoln and some other friends for Lincoln's birthday which was on March 26. He set up the trip to get us all together and we had a great time. The weather was a bit shady on Friday but we were able to get in a hike in the morning to Delicate Arch and then a hike in the evening after the rain had passed in Devil's Garden. There was lots of time spent around the camp fire along the Colorado River and a lot of good laughs and memories were passed around.

I also go in a couple of good bike rides with Tim which included Porcupine Rim in Moab and Horsethief and Mary's Loop in Loma. Some video of the rides to come as my stack of need to be edited video grows.

More updates later this week perhaps. But I need to get back on the bike. I have been feeling pretty worked for some reason and I am hoping I snap out of it soon. Might do a race on the singlespeed this weekend, we'll see what the weather has to say.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-17808600254144663502010-03-21T22:10:00.002-06:002010-03-21T22:29:59.024-06:00HappeningsShort and sweet may be my new theme because I can't seem to get myself to sit down and write blogs these days but perhaps I can try and work on that a little harder. I also need to get through the hours of video that I need to edit.... ugh but it will get done sometime.

Anyway, what have I been up to the last two weeks? Since the weather was nice I put in a huge ride last Saturday with the Trek Store Cycling team and some of the U23 Trek Livestrong professional cyclists. Ben King and Tim Roe a couple of Australians did the whole ride with us and they are awesome kids with amazing talent. Super fun to ride with till I fall of the back. Some of the guys on the team are able to keep up with them (since this is a recovery ride for them) the whole time but they are always super enough to wait for everyone to catch up and make sure we all make it back together. Makes for a lot of fun to ride with the group not to mention the great teammates I have!

Sunday Ellen and I went up to Keystone and the weather was horrible. Terribly windy and cold and the trip was short lived. We spent much more time in the car than on the mountain because they started metering traffic at the Eisenhower tunnel which made a 1.5 hour drive.... 3 hours... lame, but the way it goes.

I got in several rides at work this week and the weather was great... 60s and 70s. But then Friday Boulder was hit with a foot of snow (its almost gone again though since it warmed up Saturday and Sunday). Ellen and I headed up to Vail yesterday and the conditions were great and the weather was super sunny but freakin cold. It was about 4 degrees when we started the day. I was a grump all day because I didn't get much sleep getting up at 5 am to drive to Vail but Ellen was a sport and put up with me. I am just over snowboarding this year I am in biking mode for sure.

Today I put in 4 hours and 69 miles up around Carter Lake north of Boulder. Super good day and put down a really good pace by I was cooked with about an hour left in the ride and crawled my way home. I feel like I am getting stronger but I believe I still feel the affects of Mono with tiredness. My body just doesn't seem to be happy all the time. But I'll get there.

Thursday night I am heading out to Moab to do an early morning hike to Delicate Arch with Lincoln and some of his friends for his 30th Birthday. Delicate Arch is one of Lincoln's favorite places on earth having grown up in Salt Lake City which is reasonably close to Moab and Arches National Park. It truly is an amazing place and is an excellent place to spend a 30th Birthday. I am going to make a long weekend out of it and get in some big rides on Saturday and Sunday after spending Friday with everyone. After this weekends ride I will begin picking up the tempo on my training adding in much more climbing and more high intensity intervals. We'll see how the strength in the legs builds from there.

Hopefully the training goes well in April and May 8th the mountain bike season begins for me. There will be a team training camp in Fruita starting April 16th for a long weekend which I can't wait for! Then my mom and sister Reagan will be out visiting me which is good to look forward to as well!

All for now hopefully updates more often with how the training is going etc.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-34935771804982081042010-03-02T18:15:00.011-07:002010-03-09T19:07:19.515-07:00Rippin w/ the Rowell's PART 2First off my apologies to all for taking so long to continue the story. Things have been a bit hectic and I haven't had the motivation to blog but without further adue!

And so the continued story begins. Before I get to where I left off with the snow cream I must mention something about the veggie lasagna. This was not your normal veggie lasagna by no means. This veggie lasagna was flown up from Whole Foods in Houston via checked baggage!! Yes, that is correct I said checked baggage! Jennifer actually packed it in a cooler and flew it up and it survived!! Nothing like veggie lasagna spiked with jet fuel as AJ put it! HAHA! Good stuff!

Alright so back to where I left you off last time with the marvelous snow cream!! Here are a couple pictures of Rena going through the process.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJI6kYTy6CTn-utpK4hnGtnDHspmnHOWdJ7UeJKeuZcXhOjGlEMSALwKhBNRfOaR5IeDrrxgIsQzUTGHHBanfCP2_9qiSCszgiug05ZeN-k8wR1Si2uMQen5pwlGQfr1gKkrs1uFe3Bllf/s320/GOPR0028.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444627891517689106" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjmv9hnzT_XCdsSXZgvvLAiCcSE5wFR8PTAljBkjhP6GIi9_LD3CXIU8txzpO9caLYbxS5w6XttLoIo_fDdK43bgpJoTMtz2FtPNgrdRjHj5fMio4QVKYDB_TUXiVC3jXZrS69Fkqeuzvg/s320/GOPR0027.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444627879025163762" />

The process of snow cream started with Rena sending AJ and I outside with pots to fill up with real snow which had just fallin that day! There is a great quote that goes along with that as well. Prior to AJ and I going out we were talking about where we could find good snow that hadn't been stepped on yet. Jacklyn was saying how we could get it from off the deck and all she would need was "two parachutes and a zebra!" We all started laughing and she began to explain exactly how it would be done! She was also going to need a kangaroo so the zebra could get in the kangaroo's pouch and the kangaroo would jump back on the porch. It was a pretty witty story!

Snow cream consists of just a few ingredients. You mix the fresh snow with evaporated milk, milk, and vanilla extract! No lie it is absolutely delicious!

Friday morning was absolutely gorgeous with amazing Colorado Blue Skies! We had a delicious breakfast (I waited too long and now I forgot whether it was the morning of eggs & sausage or biscuits and gravy! Either way Friday and Saturday morning were great breakfasts thanks to Rena!) and Ski Patrol was still busy bombing the upper parts of the mountain so Jim, AJ, Heather, and myself got our legs under us and ripped some of the lower slopes for an hour or two and then noticed they opened Lift 6 and Imperial Lift which meant we could make our way to the fresh snow that had fallen in previous days! We were not disappointed by the conditions other than a bit of wind up on the top of Imperial. Even the old man Jim was enjoying the conditions in between gasps for air!

On our second trip up Imperial we went off the north side of Peak 8 which makes for one heck of a long run! AJ and I found a cornice to jump off of into the fresh snow and Jim and Heather made their way around to find an easier entrance into the bowl. Once we were all down in the bowl we were greeted with soft pillows of snow and great skiing! Heather cruised up to where I was and said "my little Texas legs are tired!" PS we were only half way down! HAHA! (some video to come if I can ever get around to editing it!)

After making our way down we headed back over to the condo for lunch. By this time Sam & Jennifer had taken the kids up on the free tow rope and got them warmed up to hit the slopes with Jim, Heather, and AJ for a few more lessons! This time there would be no pushing involved as we were going to take the lift up. Once again the kids absolutely amazed everyone and made their way down like they were seasoned professionals weaving their way through traffic and all! (also video of this to come)

Friday night we were so graciously hosted by Sandy, Jennifer's Mom. She had fabulous soup brought in from a local restaurant and we had a merry old time! Also at the shindig was another family who Jennifer's kids go to school with. There are a lot of families from Houston that have condos in Breckenridge. AJ and Heather even had a friend from back east who has lived the latter part of his life in Steamboat show up! He graced us with a few good jokes as well:

1. What is the difference between tele ski's and a vacuum?
2. What is the difference between a Ski Patroller and God?
3. There is a snowboarder wearing a suit in a car who's driving?
Answers at the end of the blog

Snow cream was also the dessert as there were others that night who had never had the tasty treat. This time brownies were included as well! Tough Duty!

The big kids aka AJ, Heather, Jennifer, and myself decided we would go out for a drink on the town since we hadn't gone out at all and it was Heather's big 3.0. birthday on Sunday! AJ, Heather, and I waited for Jennifer to get back from her Mom's tucking her kids in and Jennifer checked to see if Sam wanted to join us as well. He had been sleeping with Abraham and when she asked him if he wanted to go he responded with "you know I have been thinking about that and I can't, I'm too old for it, but you should try, you should go" HAHA! That isn't the exact quote but it is pretty close! Jennifer asked him about his response the next day and he couldn't really remember it so he was likely half asleep when he came up with it! So the four of us went on our way finding a good spot for a beer and a chat.

Saturday morning was the last day of riding and the weekend warriors were in full force. Jim, AJ, & Heather were greeted with the lines that I get to deal with vs. the luxury of week days when the crowds aren't around. We spent the day ripping fighting tired legs. Everyone was pretty tuckered out but we got it done.

The weekend ended with a trip down to a coffee shop for a snack and a pick me up before driving the Rowell's down to Denver for their early morning flight. The Rowell's and I gave our biggest thanks to Jennifer and her family and we headed out. We made the drive to Aurora and had dinner at Ted Montana's Grill and said our good bye's.... tear....

I have to say there is never a dull moment with the Rowell's and I enjoy every minute of time with them! Thanks again to the Touche's as well for their true hospitality and Rena for slaving in the kitchen for us!

I'll do my best to get the videos up this century!

1. I spent the weekend "Rippin w/ the Rowell's!" Below AJ, Heather, and myself Saturday morning under Colorado Blue Skies!

The good times started when I picked up AJ's Parents from the airport Wednesday night after work and we made our way up to Breckenridge. They were supposed to fly in the night before with AJ & Heather however Jim (AJ's Dad) had a kidney stone episode and was not able to make it onto the plane as planned. Horrible timing. However, his symptoms soon passed and Jim & Rena were able to catch a flight the next morning and catch a ride up with me. We had some good conversation and clear roads getting up to Breck around 9-9:30 and then went out for a Mexican dinner.

After dinner we stayed up chatting back at the condo waiting for Jennifer (our hostess) and her family to arrive from Houston. The bunch showed up around 11-11:30. At that time we met Sam, Jennifer's husband a Louisiana fellow who was in the Navy, Jacklyn, their 9 year old daughter and actress extraordinaire, Nathan their 8 year old question asking extraordinaire, and Abraham, their 4 year old who is much wiser than his size!

Everyone was pretty whipped so we headed to bed and woke up to gray skies however it was snowing which was great to see since there has not been much snow out this way on I70 until the last 2 weeks! Mother nature seemed to know everyone was showing up and looking for some good snow to rip! Jim, AJ, Heather, and I all headed out to the slopes and rode away the morning listening to the bombs go off on the higher slopes above the tree line. With the snow falling and the bombs going off we never made it over to the higher slopes as they kept most of it closed which was fine by me because that meant it would all be prime real estate for Friday morning or afternoon.

We all were pretty hungry from the breakfast of champions that we had which was either PB & J's or PB & Nutella, so we headed in for lunch a bit prior to noon. Rena hadn't quite made it back from the store yet so we sat in the hall way with no key and stuffed our faces with a Pro Bar that I had and Peanut M&M's that Heather had in her pocket. Rena was back shortly after that to find us waiting in the hall and we refueled on sandwiches and chips. Rena looked out for getting us fed the whole weekend which was awesome! Kudos and thanks to her!

After lunch we headed back out to the slopes to more new snow and made some good runs. AJ, Heather, & Jim had plans later in the afternoon to teach Jacklyn, Nathan, and Abraham to ski as they had never been! We didn't really see the point of them getting lift tickets until they at least tried it once so after we were done on the big slopes in the afternoon we headed down to the teaching area which was unoccupied and pushed the little ones up and down the hill teaching them the basics.

The kids did absolutely amazing!! It was awesome to see their excitement and how quick they picked it up. They were excited to hit the bigger slopes the next day! I'll have some video posted of the youngin's learning once I stitch it all together!

Once we were done working with the kids it was time for dinner. We had veggie lasagna lined up for dinner along with SNOW CREAM! I am assuming most who read this don't know what snow cream is! I sure didn't! But I am glad I do now!

And I'll continue with that in the next post! Lost my horrible writing mojo at the moment!

TO BE CONTINUED!

Night fall from Sandy's Condo (Jennifer's Mom) She was kind enough to feed us all on Friday night. More to come.

Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-23346610526757834892010-02-15T17:09:00.013-07:002010-02-16T15:36:10.936-07:00Time FliesBeen a while again since the last post. I have sat down a couple of times to try and write a blog and have things to blog about but just haven't been in the mood. So alas without further adeu I blog.

In the last couple of weeks my summer race schedule has taken some turns mostly due to not making it into the Leadville 100 and remembering a wedding I will be attending in August. I was extremely bummed at first about not making it into Leadville but I once again remembered shortly there after there are a lot of other races out there that have a much better course so no worries. Though yes it is prestigious to race at such a high elevation for so long. I was going to do Pierre's Hole in Wyoming the week after Leadville since I didn't make it in there but I remembered I will be heading back east for Scott and Leia's wedding and of course seeing family since it will be where I grew up. So August is going to actually be more of a recovery month with a Winter Park Race or two instead of a big race which is probably more of what I can handle anyway! End of July I have the Laramie Enduro if I register in time and then a month later will be the Park City Point to Point with a bunch of the guys from my team so that will be a great setup.

Another change to the schedule will be in July. I am going to race the Firecracker 50 in Breckenridge on July 4th as the Team is being so kind as to pick up my entry fee which is absolutely awesome and I can't thank them enough for the opportunity. I was contemplating doing the Breckenridge 100 since it got the best of me last year but I will do the Firecracker 50 instead as it is a new experience and the Team is supporting it.

In other news we have gotten up to snowboard a couple of times. Still not much snow but good times. Ellen, Tim, Amy, and I all went up and stayed at Carl and Angela's house in Eagle since Stephanie came into town (Angela is Stephanie's sister). We all had a good time hanging out, eating breakfast and riding at Keystone.

Snowboarding at Keystone
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCHFal4-hIDa4avuGGirqs0u9prISfLw_wnhJd-RtfWdHOzyLsb6w8VXl6AmqvlrWufSfJ7TbE5KoZ1xKBgY_R1-SZbns15eGB_hHY1EhLJYVcpn6aaCqzyM8T8La29snCfxQqpQSiFv4N/s320/GOPR0013.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438707311837304850" />

I have also been able to get in more time on the trainer trying to rebuild myself and also been out for a few rides on the road bike outside. I rode for about 2-2.5 hours on Saturday with Greg which was a good time. He rode out from Louisville and I met him out on the road and we looped back around to his house and I then made my way back to Boulder. I had planned to stay out for 3 hours or so but the wind sapped my energy coming back into Boulder and I called it early feeling a bit drained. It was a great ride though.

Today I had probably the best ride yet. I was out for almost 3 hours enjoying the sunshine on the Superfly 100 mountain bike getting acquainted with my new saddle and trying to dial in my setup so I will be all ready to hit the trails if they ever dry off. Since the trails are wet I was out on a mix of road and dirt roads but it is perfect for trying to set up my position on the bike. I absolutely cannot wait to race this bike!!! This season is going to be an absolute blast!

Superfly 100 (Horsetooth Res in Ft. We will spend a three day weekend out there in April getting to know the new members and enjoying great bike time with everyone. I can't wait!!

Lastly, my buddy Lincoln has set up plans to hike to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park (Moab, UT) on March 26 at 6am for his 30th birthday! My plan is definitely to attend as my birthday will be right around there as well. On top of that Rob might join me and we are going to turn it into a bike trip as well since for those of you who don't know Moab is a prime biking location. Rob hasn't rode out there since he has been living in Colorado so it is a must do. It will be great training for me as my first race inches closer May 8th.

Oh so beautiful Delicate Arch
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnU62ALh_I05YvFv6j-qNoZC5E8Ao2jmc0EcDIAaj3rc59820wd8vNoDvrctGECLoJfKWlD67-5SrbAh5g5BSoiL4ggMoadGAS5aeXhLCf5YbJivQC1R_S3WHw703vZsTTeudOX_ELkgyc/s320/delicate-arch-arches-national-park-utah.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5438705817710210402" />

All for now will try to update sooner. Work is going to be super busy this week and next then I am going to take a couple days off to ski with AJ, his sister, and his Dad who will be staying up in Breckenridge for 5 days! AJ's sister has a hook up in Houston, TX where she is living who has kindly allowed them to stay in there ski in ski out condo! Good times to be had!

Ellen made bomber crepes this weekend

PS I have added a link on the right to my Flickr account and You Tube page so you can see videos and pictures I have uploaded recently if you haven't seen them from Twitter or Facebook.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com42tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-71214842284330938162010-01-29T06:27:00.007-07:002010-01-29T07:00:53.004-07:00Race Season UpdateI thought I would give everyone a bit of an update on what I am planning to do this year as far as mountain bike racing! Of course I am no where near ready for any type of racing but I hope to start consistent riding beginning next week. I say consistent because I have been riding BUT not very much making sure I don't over do it to soon.

I'll start off with our team kits of this year. Dave, one of the Owners of the Trek Bicycle Stores in Boulder and Louisville designed them with some input from the team members after a first run mock up. I am super excited about getting them. Dave and Brian the two owners of the Trek Bicycle Stores are pouring their heart and soles into racing this year sponsoring a mountain bike team, road team, and triathlon team! Thanks again guys for all your support. See my links at the right of the page if you want to know more about the Trek Bicycle Stores of Boulder & Louisville. So without further adue:

Trek Bicycle Store 2010 Race Kits
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 207px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPiilM5efUPNcoaHG-CrzDJGIszc3jMgrgiUlcmTitPfUyqYrhqgOEg1TxGQpK8IT0twBk_L53dMVaxbHewVF5OcwWGAOLIhFLs_vkO1FsC0XBvYP4fwb1cD067Kk5hb1Sp4ki1o9Bf2D3/s320/Team+Kits.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432155130518653570" />

The first race on the list this year will be May 8th! I am returning to the 12 hours of Mesa Verde in Cortez, CO. I am already registered for this race (team name = Dukes of Dirt!) with my buddy Greg in the duo category. Last year I did this race solo but I thought it would be run to do as a team as well. Can't wait to ride the awesome trails in what is called Phil's World down in Southwest Colorado. There will be several other guys from the team there as well running the solo category.

Next on the race schedule Memorial Day weekend will be The Original Growler! (10 Trek Bicycle Store riders are racing including Dave one of the owners)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 216px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0JpF9fL99JPPRXF7lMji11Xew6y_6SyzvIssf5rJ7udsNR4vXAgn_NpeEoRlmyVP9562l2eK5m6hyphenhyphenCDRIo2uUGFy-rTBN79eK7LL9z1kfg_EVHKzABkrErJXCOZOnncoIP3peQCG3P6p6/s320/Growler-Logo-Final.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432156210811012738" />

This is an awesome race in Gunnison, CO put on by none other than Dave Wiens, a mountain bike icon! This year the race sold out in less than a day! The field is limited to 250-300 riders and has gained a lot of recognition in what is now it's 3rd year. This race holds a special place in my heart as it was the first mountain bike race I ever did. I hope to improve my time greatly this year and I also hope the weather doesn't end up like it did last year! I have been contemplating a new MacBook for quite sometime now but haven't pulled the trigger. I was tired of not being able to watch video at full speed, watch Netflix online, or even run certain programs because my iBook didn't have an intel chip (basically it is just too old). I knew I wanted to get a Mac and not a PC even though PC's are far cheaper. However, in 5 years of using a Mac I never had any problems with it other than the one time that I blew the harddrive up which was totally my fault.

Everything about a Mac is better for home use in my mind. I play with pictures, music, now video with my new helmet cam, watch TV, and movies on it, I do everything on my computer and just believe it is a better way to go for me. Finally I must say I am stoked with it as I type from the new digs right now!

I also have to give a shout out to my Dad for contributing. I was just going to get a refurbished MacBook to save a little dough because I had heard people say they are pretty reliable but my Dad thought otherwise (due to previous experience with refurbished electronics) and just told me to get a new one. Thanks again for watching out Pops!

Looks like some snowboarding should be had this weekend. Not much new snow but there was some over the week so perhaps we can at least do a bit of riding. Other than that I will be trying to catch up on some work since my week has been filled with nothing but meetings it seems like and Ellen will be studying now that she is fully emerged in school.

PS watched XGames Super Pipe Qualifying tonight and Shaun White is on Lock!! The dude looks amazingly smooth and if he keeps this up he will be bringing the US home another gold medal! Scotty Lego (another Olympian for 2010) did not qualify which is very disappointing. Perhaps a bit of inexperience and nerves missing his last trick on both runs. Really wishing Kevin Pierce and Danny Davis didn't get hurt! Hope they are both on their way to recovery!Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-23255476228165181692010-01-26T21:16:00.003-07:002010-01-26T22:02:15.411-07:00Ups and Downs of RecoveryTea in hand, day two of rest, day two of core performance. As many of you have seen on Facebook or Twitter I got in a couple of good rides this weekend outside! Only problem was the ride on Sunday with my buddy Jon in combination with a late night celebrating Greg's birthday at the Avs Hockey Game left me worn out.

I took yesterday off other than starting my core performance work out which is only 30-45 minutes of core exercises. Today was a good day at work however I was still feeling pretty worn out when I got home so I just did my core workout again and decided another night of rest wouldn't hurt. I guess the driving winds Jon hand to pull me home in on Sunday wore me out big time. I am ok with resting though since I definitely don't want to over do it and delay myself even longer coming back. I'm just trying to listen to my body.

Not this past weekend but the weekend before Ellen and I stayed up at Keystone with Brendan and Abby as they had several friends from New York City come out to do some snowboarding. We had a great time with everyone and no one got hurt so that is a plus. There were definitely some humorous wrecks witnessed none of which were by me since I was just trying to stay upright with the pretty sketchy conditions. The New Yorkers loved being on the big mountains though and it was good to see them having a good time.

This past weekend Ellen and I finally saw Avatar in 3D. Overall, I was impressed, it was a good movie and it actually left me feeling like I was in a dreamland for a little bit afterwards. Maybe I was just tired who knows. Saturday I went for my first post sickness bike ride outside and Ellen studied all day now that she is back in school. We took it easy the rest of the night watching a movie and cooking dinner. Sunday we woke up to some howling winds which left me contemplating the days ride with Jon. Ellen took off for a run and came back saying it really wasn't to bad outside. Jon should up around 11 and we headed out. The first 1:45 min was not bad but the last 45 min was pretty much wind induced torture which led me to the need for rest I spoke about earlier. I bonked out for a little bit and Jon blocked the wind pulling me in. I was able to recover a somewhat and he bonked out so I took a pull on the front as well. Instead of heading right back to the apartment we took a short detour to Chipotle for a burrito and then it was just the 9th St. Hill back to the Apt to devour our burritos and call it a good day.

The weekend ended with the Avs Hockey game at the Pepsi Center for Greg's birthday. I was informed by Greg and Mary Beth at the game that they may be leaving us here on the Front Range. Mary Beth was offered back her position in Mt. Rainier National Park that she held this past summer and has not received to many job offers otherwise which makes for a hard decision. Greg works from home for a sister company of mine so relocating is not a big deal for him. However, I am definitely hoping they are able to stay around Colorado as they are two of the best people I know around here!

Ellen and I at the Avs Game
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT9l47-LbofF1WENeAImAKnllzy_WYG3TndntxB0Vv83y9AO7CpjlVj-sSShODKX7OLLpgDIwnpgtLbSvQk1s0SqCwgdW6KZhZ7A28Fgy3wUIiriOLMzTItVu3cyEQojokMNTxp11Swlv1/s320/photo-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431280360783076674" />

Just another day in paradise otherwise. I finally got back on the bike! Well sort of. I rode the trainer at a super easy pace for 50 minutes while Ellen was out running. I have truly never been so happy to be on the trainer. I was officially going crazy on the inside, and I'm guessing the outside as well if you asked Ellen.

Let's take a step back though. Last week as I posted on Monday was my first week back in the office in several weeks. We are currently going through our year end close so the week was busy and this next week will be as well. Getting out of the apartment was good for me and I think it helped progress the healing process. As the week went I was able to get back into my groove a little bit.

Wednesday night I picked up Ellen from the airport as she had flown back in from three weeks in California and Arizona. We got a snow storm that day as well so the roads were interesting getting back from the airport but nothing horrible. Mostly just the amazingly terrible Colorado drivers that always make things interesting.

I have been trying to keep my diet pretty healthy to aide in the recovery of the virus the best I can. In addition to adding a daily vitamin I have actually found a pretty good setup for my lunch at work. It involves the following:

Midmorning Snack
Banana or yogurt & fresh granola mid morning snack

Lunch
-Whole wheat pita or bread with turkey breast, green & red peppers, pepperjack cheese, & spinach, usually a bit of honey mustard as well (avocado occasionally as well)
-Carrots & Cucumbers
-Boulder Canyon Natural Foods "Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper" Potato Chips (AMAZING!)
-Some kind of cookie (I'm not that big of a stickler!)

Afternoon snack
-Apple or Pear usually but any fruit
-String cheese or Nuts (Raw Almonds & Walnuts)

I have also greatly cut back my caffeine intake. I was drinking way to much coffee in the mornings and I have started to drink caffeine free tea as a substitute. I do still love my coffee don't get me wrong but I have to put some kind of a limiter on it. Tea has been a fantastic solution.

So back on the topic of getting back on the bike. I must state that I am not doing any sort of hard ride at all. Just trying to get the legs spinning again and working on pedaling drills to make my pedal stroke more efficient and smooth. The ride on Saturday was fantastic! My heart rate was in the 130s for the whole ride and would occasionally go into the 140s during the pedaling drill intervals.

After our workouts Ellen and I went over to Abby and Brendan's to watch football. We ordered up some pizza and chilled out for the game. It was a super good time and a great way to spend the afternoon.

Today I rode the trainer for an hour with the same routine as Saturday and once again felt very good. I will continue this routine for several weeks and possible start to add in a core workout as well to rebuild my strength. My sanity just may come back yet!

Ellen went up snowboarding today with Abby and Brendan and they also met up with Tim and Amy for a short bit. It's a bummer to be missing out on the snowboarding however I am stoked to at least be making some kind of physical progress in getting back to normalcy.

All for now... sorry for the randomness. I wanted to write something tonight but my thought's aren't all together, DEAL WITH IT HAHA!Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-39178626166763005862010-01-04T19:32:00.006-07:002010-01-04T19:56:49.347-07:00Back in the OfficeToday was my first day back in the office after taking a week of sick time and then working from home for a week. My morning started out a little rough as half way to work I realized I forgot my wallet and phone. On any other day I would have said forget about it but I wanted to send out my gifts for my Mom & Dad that are well over due. That's another story. Anywho, I turned around went back and got them and the rest of the day turned out relatively smooth.

Tomorrow is a big day! Registration opens for the 12 Hours of Mesa Verde Mountain Bike Race which I am stoked to do again! The event takes place on May 8th down near the four corners west of Durango in Cortez, CO. Cortez is home to Osprey Backpacks for all you backpackers out there and some SWEET! single track. Not to mention Mesa Verde National Park is right there as well. Last year I told my buddy Greg I would like to do it as a Duo and he was much obliged to be my partner.

This is Greg... the old man! He calls this picture "Holding back the Vomit!"

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqPDTOvU-xexVwScxsrH4KkR5mu46qnDSN0044sDSog9Tz44x-L8b1ZfuvmQfHGcct2_dmJmYMrhTDMvklQ8HOWLDT5nOZfged4_XWTC2rFaTEKsytVnZBEvCORzcSgU6txTtDPRbXFstV/s320/IMG_4483.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423080980271012498" />

Greg aka Fiona (as I call him) is a absolute hoot and it should be quite the riot racing with him! Normally people like to talk smack to the other teams and such but for some reason I have a feeling we will be talking smack to each other. I'll probably be yelling at him telling him to get his skirt out of the chain and who knows what he will have to say back it's always original and hilarious! The Trek Bicycle Store of Boulder Team should have a few other riders there as well who I will be cheering on and helping out in between switching off laps with Greg. I CAN'T WAIT!!Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-25054253712676254542009-12-31T20:38:00.002-07:002009-12-31T21:51:16.425-07:00Ringing in the New Year A true "fresh" startI am going to go ahead and follow suit with a lot of what has been going on in the blogger and twitter worlds. Everyone is saying good by to 2009 and hello to 2010.

Overall 2009 was a great year for me. My love for mountain biking has gone through the roof and I can definitely say I am addicted. I was able to join a fantastic bike team in that of the Trek Bicycle Store of Boulder. These guys truly love cycling and really put themselves out there to show their love of the sport taking care of so many riders. The owners, the employees, and the riders are amazing people and a lot of fun to be around. Thanks for everything guys and I look forward to 2010!

In 2009 I also met an awesome girl by the name of Ellen as most of you know. I met her for the first time almost a year ago through mutual friends in Steamboat. I was up there to do some snowboarding and hang out with friends like I usually do each year and she caught my eye from the beginning. I didn't hang out with her again until June when our friend Jenny moved out to Steamboat from North Carolina, worked her magic and next thing I knew we were hanging out in Steamboat and Boulder over the summer. She has since moved down to Ft. Collins to head back to school at CSU to get her 2nd degree and we are doing great!

Another highlight was when my Dad come out to go to the Drag Races at Bandimere Raceway. We hadn't gone to the drags since I was a kid in Indianapolis. It really took me back in time with the sheer thunder those cars produce and I LOVED IT. Pops also went to one of my Winter Park races and it was amazing to have there to see what the races are like.

My Mom also made a memorable trip out with her friends. They all came out to explore the Colorado high country and attend my Breckenridge 100 race. We had a good time wandering the town and hanging out. I bonked out of the race this year which was disappointing I couldn't finish for all of them but some days you just don't have it. It was still awesome to have them all there. My Mom also got to meet Ellen as she came down for my race and she had a half marathon trail run of her own the next day at Vail which she completed!

These were just a few of the great things that went down for me this year. The end of 2009 wasn't so pleasant for me as many of you know. Mono and Strep have had me in the cellar for the last two weeks. I was able to work from home this week which kept me occupied some what from thinking about not being able to do anything active. However, as I said from the beginning of the Mono experience I am looking at this as beneficial. When 2010 arrives it is like a fresh beginning and rebuilding period. I am feeling much better and can now say I am ready to take 2010 head on.

It will be a slow fresh beginning but I am looking forward to it. I hope everyone is safe tonight and I'll see you all on the flip side!Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-9482035829669190552009-12-26T12:51:00.002-07:002009-12-26T12:59:40.578-07:00Well Crap Group C StrepI just got a call from the Boulder Urgent Care this morning. My fingers were crossed they were just checking up on me but nope. Turns out that mess I saw in my throat a few days ago turns out to be Group C Strep. The Urgent Care just got my throat culture back from the lab.

From what I read right quick and what the lady at the Urgent Care told me Group A Strep is the strep throat that usually causes the nasty pain and really crazy sore throat and Group C is a lesser case I guess you could say. Either way I am going to pick up Z Pak antibiotics in about 20 minutes from the pharmacy. This will hopefully finish off the bacteria that has been causing the problems in my throat. The Z Pak will not doing anything for the Mono since that is virus related. I do still sleep better and feel better but I really hope these antibiotics take care of this nastiness. I am starting to go slightly crazy looking at my bikes and not being able to ride them though I still have a while for that anyway.

I guess for now I am just happy that the symptoms are down. I will continue doing what I have been which is taking it easy eating, drinking water, and getting sleep.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-38831300657778887712009-12-25T11:43:00.008-07:002009-12-25T12:08:37.981-07:00Merry Christmas!Merry Christmas to everyone and I hope your day is fantastic!

I believe I am currently on the mend from the Mono. I am keeping in mind that though I am feeling better there is still a long way to go. I can't get to carried away too soon. The last two nights I have been able to sleep clear through the night and the swelling in my lymph node has gone down considerably and my throat is feeling much much better though it is still swollen and jacked up on the inside. I continue to drink absurd amounts of water and use the bathroom every 45 minutes to an hour. I was all too lucky to be able to keep my appetite through the worst of the symptoms.

This morning I awoke and opened the presents that have been sitting in my room for over two weeks. The big kids in my family aka Reagan, Leslie, Ryan, Matt, and myself decided to do an exchange of sorts in that we drew one name and spent a set amount of money on that one person.

Ryan was my Santa this year and he got me this Fox Racing T-Shirt:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhna8jGCfVcQNsgT90TI-2wczIP7u72diYe7YRVb_5f6Kyf0CrUP7ZlFhVz6FtJp9m7fxjzgleOHhK7C0uwiCIdik8IIbbWXAwBanQU_JwEVtDSd4kVhdPKpqxvAwpBsKzCDnvRWfFs414c/s320/product_84-536.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419248184326080594" />

This fantastic drive train cover to protect my dérailleur and chain from dirt when traveling called the Chain Condom! They also sent me a care package with goodies from the Dutch Essen House in Shipshewana, IN (Amish Country). I got Banana Bread, Snickerdoodles, Homemade Egg Noodles, Beef Base, Peach Rings, Chicken Corn Noodle Soup, and Apple Snitz! Pretty bomb care package if you ask me!

Also my girlfriend Ellen left me a package in her car as she went home to Alamo, CA for Christmas and is currently traveling to AZ to visit family. I went out and got the present this morning after she emailed me it was in there it was "The Cyclist Training Bible!" Sweet!! A fantastic Christmas Morning it was!

This afternoon Abby is cooking up some lunch so I am going to hang out with her and Brendan since they have both had Mono there is no big worry of getting them sick. We will watch some snowboarding movies I am going to take over at Brendan's request and enjoy the day.

Once again Merry Christmas to all and have a GREAT DAY!

BBrandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-18264313985204995382009-12-22T10:58:00.003-07:002009-12-22T13:15:54.932-07:00Mono Update/Leadville 100 WagerI continue to have my appetite which has to be helping with the recovery. Yesterday I picked up some advil and vicks nasal spray which have both helped curb some of the symptoms and I felt a bit better yesterday. I was really hoping to get some good rest last night and I did for about 5 hours. Then it was back to the night sweats and waking up every hour tossing and turning.

Today it feels like the swelling in my neck is finally holding steady. Still have a bit of a sore throat and some drainage but I don't seem to be getting any worse. Still feel worn down but the body aches have seemed to subside.

To pass the time last night I was looking at more races for the 2010 race season and was checking out registration for the Leadville 100 as it has opened for the the Lottery process. There are so many applicants for this race that they do a lottery drawing. Last year I didn't get in so I was amped to sign up again this year. However, when I looked at the entry fees they upped it $25 and are charging a $15 application fee. I found this to be totally bogus and was starting to second guess entry. Lance Armstrong has raced in the Leadville 100 the last two years and the applicant entry numbers have gone crazy since.

The thought of racing in this race because of Lance has never been a thought in my mind because who cares. You see the guy at the starting line and then again on course when he is like 3-4 hours ahead of you on the return leg of the race. That isn't a pleasure it's demoralizing haha! The lure to this race is not the course either as there is not much singletrack. The lure is the fact that you are racing at 9,500 ft up to 12,000 ft above sea level for 100 miles. This makes the race extremely challenging not to mention the amount of climbing involved. The lure is purely the extreme nature of the race in my mind. You will go through so many highs and lows during the race mentally and physically it's a real fight to the finish.

Matt my bro-in-law saw my post on Twitter last night that I was contemplating not entering the race because of the price tag to enter. He was kind enough to enlighten me again on the fact that I need to take the opportunity to do such a race while I can. So I made a wager with him. If I get into the race and complete in the 12 hour time limit then he picks up the entry fee. If I get in and do not make it then I am stuck with the tab. So game on keep your fingers crossed I get in!

Alright nap time. Hope everyone is doing well.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-44269487831136221902009-12-20T18:03:00.002-07:002009-12-20T18:10:04.452-07:00Another Day DownLast night was not a great night. I was very uneasy sleeping and kept waking up in a full on sweat. My throat was hurting more with drainage that I couldn't seem to get out. So I tossed and turned all night with an uncomfortable neck but was able to get a few bouts of sleep.

Today involved lots of couch time and two naps. I still have my appetite which is awesome. I think that is making everything a lot easier. The sore throat is still manageable and actually feels pretty good when I am eating or drinking, just seems to dry out pretty fast otherwise. Body aches continue and I have to change position a lot. Definitely have to rest my head or the right side of my neck with the swelling starts to ache.

Other than that I am in good spirits and will continue taking it easy all week. More updates to come as the week progresses.

Thanks to all those who are offering help though I am doing well. I will let you know if I need anything.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-71568978687080860792009-12-19T22:11:00.002-07:002009-12-19T22:42:44.530-07:00Been a long timeWell been like 8 months since my last blog post because I got caught up in the simplicity of twitter and wasn't really having much to write about. Not going to try and back track to what has occurred in the last 8 months but rather move forward.

Four weeks ago I went to the Dr. for the first time in a long time because had come down with some serious congestion for two weeks and decided it was finally time to see if the Dr. couldn't clear things up a little sooner with an antibiotic or something. Dr. put me on amoxicillin and I headed off to Chartlotte for a pre-Thanksgiving visit to my sisters to see my her as well as my niece, nephew, and bro-in-law as well as my friend Kate. I figured that would be the end of it.

Fast forward 4 weeks and I all of the sudden get a really swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck and was really starting to feel fatigued at work. It continues to grow so 3 days later which would have been yesterday Friday morning I decided I need to go to the Dr. again. Not happy as I hate the Dr. and usually get through small sicknesses with no problem. Dr. has a look and takes a throat swab and gets blood for blood work. I wait two hours and call back. Diagnosis = Mononucleosis positive?!?! WHAT REALLY?!?! Yup all other levels looks good as far as white blood cell count and electrolytes etc. Well doesn't this suck.

I had just gone to our Trek Bicycle Store Team meeting the night before and was getting pumped to really start riding for the 2010 race season. As I see it you can look at this situation in two ways:

1. Sit and sulk and let the virus tear you down until 4-6 weeks passes or
2. Realize this is one of the better times it could happen and plan how you are going to really take care of yourself and rebuild from it

I chose the latter. I have great support from work as my boss has had Mono before and he knows what it is like. I also have a lot of sick days left so with the support of my boss as well I will have ample time to get over the worst of it before going back to work. I am looking at this experience (though my body is fighting a strong virus) as recovery and planning time. I know it will be hard work to get my full body back into the demanding shape endurance mountain biking requires so planning will be key.

I am going to be very patient with this recovery and try not to work too fast to regain my strength. Mono can tear you down and stick with you for a long time if you don't give your body the proper time and care to recover. Not to mention most of the activities I partake in have a good chance of collision injuries which can make the spleen burst as it is sensitive because of the virus. Snowboarding and biking are both in the waiting pattern for a while.

All that said how do I currently feel? I am definitely in the early stages from what I can see. I have body aches and feel weak and fatigued. Minor sore throat but nothing bad yet. My neck is a bit stiff and achy from the small potato sized swollen lymph node on my neck (this is what bothers me most). I am hoping this all holds steady and I can get lots of rest and nourishment this week since I will be home from work and I will hopefully make the turn.

Sorry to those of you who I haven't returned your calls. Stephanie and Justin. I will try to get back to you tomorrow or this week. I was hoping to get in a big bigger ride but the snow flurries were threatening and I didn't feel like getting quit out in the snow with a road bike. I ended up bringing it inside and jumped on the trainer for a bit more of a work out. Anywho here is a preview of what is to come with some bigger ride this summer. It's a pretty cool tool so that you guys can really see what I am up too when I am riding.

You can click on the map on the view elevation link and it will open a new window so you can see the route in hybrid, topo, satellite view etc. It will be really cool to see what kind of elevation I am climbing once this snow melts and I can climb into the mountains.

iMapMyRide Apr 5, 2009 1:06 PM
Find more Bike Rides in Boulder, ColoradoBrandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-89097459572649201802009-03-17T21:25:00.003-06:002009-03-17T21:57:19.980-06:00Fruita BoundI must say the weekend can't come fast enough! OK OK I know I almost always say that but this weekend is the first bike trip of the year! I haven't had my mountain bike for two weeks and the weather has been beautiful and it is driving me crazy. I have been on the road bike the last 4 days for over 100 miles and Saturday and Sunday combined for 70 of those miles. My legs are considerably fatigued and it feels good to have some soreness in them cause that means I am coming back!

Just a reminder of what Fruita is all about!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju6Jc92zV38nTTy5E4nuhp30KCLSUXG410-fNywbp27W4VdEZjc6f06X7VNXFO4LzedjsEbNIZqJ0ohJF7I3HS1vtLsb3d9lCsa1lAzTvc3vXoA4JuOynEIWY-pljiLZSRuxXkCTJmErjv/s320/100_3562.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314370071496662242" />

Greg (the old man HA!) and I will be heading out to Fruita to enjoy 60-70 degree weather in the Bookcliffs on the western slope just east of the Utah border. Tim can't go because he is going on a spring break rafting trip though he really wants to since he finally got another mountain bike. Rob can't go because his Dad is coming into town and they are putting in final preparations for the Boston Marathon which Rob and his Dad will be running in April. Jon can't go because he has to work to pay the bills as he has taken much of this week off with a friend in town. I am not sure if any of Greg's other buddies are going to join us. I guess we'll find out tomorrow when a group of us meet up at Boulder Beer for some drinks after work.

When I was in the shop today finding out when I will be getting my bike back for like the 3rd time (yes I am persistent when it comes workin with the guys at the Trek Store) Joey made a call while I was there to Fox and they said I was covered under full warranty which means either they put all new internals in the shock or I am getting a whole NEW Shock! AND it will be there tomorrow! Either way it is like a new shock and I am stoked! While Joey was making the call I was talking tires with Matt for my up coming races in may. We talked over a few I might want to use and he ended up tossin me a barely used pretty much new tire to try out! $50 bucks saved! That's what I'm talkin about! So I am going to throw that on for this weekend and see how I like it. While I was paying for some other odds and ends I needed for this weekend like tubes (incase I blow my tubeless off the rim like last time I was in Fruita), quick links (in case a chain snaps) and some more Stan's Sealant (for running tubeless tires) Matt told me how the store was putting together a little store team for some races. They are keeping it pretty small just some of the mechanics and friends but he said he would see if I could be a part of it if I was interested. I said heck yeah if they don't mind havin a straggler on the team. He said it was pretty much for fun Joey would prolly have a tent sent up drinkin beer and fixin our bikes if we needed it. He said they have put together a pretty sweet cycling kit (jersey, shorts, socks) and he would see if he couldn't get me one. He said you just have to commit to like 5-6 races and I already have 3 planned on the calendar and 2 I am registered for! So hell why not right?!?!

After all I would love to ride around and represent those guys! It's the least I could do since they have always taken care of me with smiling faces! Although they don't really have a choice since I am pretty much in there what seems like at least once a week. If they are working on my bike I am pretty much there everyday seeing how things are going trying to pick up on this I can do myself. Although since I am a preferred customer my stuff always goes to the front of the line when it comes to maintenance along with about 25 other people... they know how to run a business!

Anywho three more days of work to get through and then it's out to the smooth packed single track of Fruita!

Western Slope Desert Splender!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8mvOt4ZaIgfLOpZuc5t-f-ORwaScLkPOjT4PNFW59Y5bMrqvlYnIE7x1NAgGdnynqd4AU4-ayi6hyphenhyphenB4dCboOLPdFtUWjJUuIjntaBP-YtdoI7Q1hwdwMmSPHp95vghSiyRrN7RxwoT-_H/s320/100_3567.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314370078512118962" />Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-62038891032426941812009-02-26T20:33:00.003-07:002009-02-26T20:43:58.597-07:00Spring Race Schedule is SetSo a little update on the happenings of recent. I pulled the trigger on a race after hearing about not getting into the Leadville 100. I will be doing the Gunnison Growler again Memorial Day weekend and my buddy Greg will for sure be doing it with me and his wife might do the half Growler. Our friend Jon will probably be doing the race with us as well. He will probably put us both to shame as he has been doing races for a few years and is a phenomenal rider.

Today I also finally committed to doing the 12 Hours of Mesa Verde May 9th. I want to do well in the race however I will be doing it more as a training race for the Gunnison Growler which will be two weeks later. The 12 hours of Mesa Verde will be down in Cortez, CO which is 40 minutes west of Durango and right outside of Mesa Verde National Park. I have wanted to visit that area for quite sometime and this is a great opportunity to do it. I have taken Friday off before the race so I can perhaps take a peak into the National Park as well as ride the course and see what it is all about the day before the race. The objective of the 12/24 hour races is to ride as many laps as you can on the usually 11-13 mile course in the time alloted. It should be a great time.

Until then I will be trying to get on the bike more and more. I also got my plane ticket for Lester and Ryan's wedding in Ft. Myers, FL at the end of April. I am having flash backs of Florida last year which was two weeks before the Breckenridge 100. HAHA!

Alright all for now. See the Fam in Chicago in a week for the Bachelor and Bachelorette parties!Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-21998111075255509602009-02-17T00:12:00.005-07:002009-02-17T00:23:02.096-07:00TwitterYes I have joined yet another electronic craze. I now have a twitter account which lets you know what I am doing at all times... well whenever I update it. You don't need an account to see what I am doing. Here is the link and you can go to it whenever you want. https://twitter.com/BrandonNewcomer Sorry no blog post. Nothing exciting to write about. Been a slow winter, not really much worthy to type about. Hopefully smaller updates on twitter will lead to bigger stories to write about.

Quick tid bits. Bobby and Jess are engaged! Jenny is coming to Steamboat this weekend and will head up there for a couple days of fun. Went down to Denver over the weekend and went to the Galactic, JJ Grey, and Mofro concert. Was a good time with Rob and Megan. Went for a muddy freakin ride with Rob today. Both decided we should not have been on one part of the trail. He has a single speed and had to hike some of it. I dug through the climb and my chain, gears and bike were literally coated with thick mud and my gears weren't working right. We nursed the bikes home squeaking the whole way.

Back to work in the morning. I should been sleeping. Good night.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-60112900354913437402009-01-10T09:25:00.004-07:002009-01-10T09:52:05.086-07:00Holidays are overIt's been a while since I have posted as many of you have probably noticed. Glad the Holidays are over is all I have to say. I will start with the day after my last post.

The day after Christmas I headed up to Vail to meet up with Jaime, her husband, and her husbands sister. We were delightfully greeted with about 6-8 inches of new snow which made the conditions fantastic. We skied pretty hard all morning and headed in for lunch. After lunch the weather took a bit of a drastic change as the winds picked up and the clouds moved in which made the visibility in the back bowls next to nothing. We had the complete vertigo feeling going on and you couldn't tell where the ground was. You lose all of your senses and it is a pretty wild feeling. Jaime and I actually ended up above a cliff and couldn't tell how far down it was to the landing. We worked our way through it and when we looked back up at the cliff it would have been about a 15-20 ft drop which would have been interesting not being able to tell where the ground was. We took a few more runs and then it was time to head home. All in all a good day.

After a pretty lazy weekend and one day of work I flew out to Detroit for Laine and Caseys' wedding. Justin and Erika picked me up from the airport and we headed to the Hotel where the wedding would be and where everyone was staying. When we arrived we went and met up with all of the family members who were already there including one of my favorite parents Mike Gordon. He was excited to see me as well and I had a lot of fun with him over the couple of days. Some other fellow Eddies who were there included Kyle Bartosiak, Risa Zander, and Jason Ball. We all had a great time and rang in the New Year during the reception. During some of the reminiscing Mike brought up a point that he remember most about me in High School. It was the day we graduated when he was handing out our diplomas. He shook everyone's hand as usual but when I came up I told him to come in for the "real thing" and gave him a big hug. He said I choked him up with that which was pretty funny! He's a good dude! It was good to see everyone and a great trip over all. I spent the whole flight and the next day sleeping and recovering from the nights festivities.

The day after I got back I headed out on a muddy bike ride with my buddy Rob. The weather was nice and it felt great but a bit awkward to get back on the bike. Most of the trail was pretty dry but there were some muddy spots and eventually on the north facing slopes it go to be a bit much in the corners and we decided to turn it around.

Over the next several days I actually got on the trainer which made me feel a lot better. It's amazing what the bike can do for you. Even though it is sheer torture to sit on the trainer inside I just put a movie on and make the best of it.

This week was a busy full week of work. We are currently into our year end reporting with deadlines next week. Other than work we had an eventful week here in Boulder and the winds were absolutely crazy. There were gusts of 100mph recorded in Boulder which lead to power lines and polls getting knocked down which eventually sparked several wild fires. One of the fires burnt over 1,100 acres, 2 houses, and 3 out structures including a barn. Thousands of animals were evacuated as there were lots of ranches around the fire area. The fire was in North Boulder just beyond residential areas many of which had to be evacuated. I first noticed the fire from work out in Broomfield. We had a good view of the fire making its way up the mountains. When I got home I could walk out of my apartment look to the North and see the fire raging furiously. We had sustained winds of 40-60 mph hour which just fueled the fire like crazy. Below is a picture of just how close it got to the Dakota Ridge subdivision. The fire fighters did an absolutely stellar job of saving structures and peoples lives. Kudos to them.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbK5QmW8kIOXE2Qz96EbgUNdNt9S5elXgi_5ECPAz35jndFplNLdlPndtpDouJN506xN8vlOK51n1mdPnv5p7pVEf7sZZgz2w2ThXt1o7Jt4Mvs6-l_uGbpg6eoX5rAmRuxfPQGcMT55aO/s320/firesmall__t600.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5289708759657507570" />

Today I am going to get on the mountain bike down by Red Rocks with a buddy that lives down that way. I told myself if the mountains don't get more than 6 inches over night I wouldn't make the trip up. Vail and Beaver Creek got 8-9in but I didn't feel like driving out that far at 5:30am when I checked the snow reports. I am going to head up to Copper Mountain Tuesday night to stay with Rob Habicht and his friends to ski Wednesday and then we are planning to go to Steamboat next weekend so I am not to worried about heading up this weekend unless a storm moves in over night.

All for now.Brandohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01716047228780059981noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8484067891302776494.post-82898822029002834642008-12-25T22:41:00.003-07:002008-12-25T23:01:39.949-07:00Seasons Greetings from BoulderYesterday was a good day... today was a good day... and tomorrow looks to be another good day.

Yesterday I couldn't help myself and had to take one extra day off work for this long Christmas weekend. You see the mountains had got dumped on Monday night and when I checked the snow report at work I was extremely frustrated I was sitting in an office. Therefore I figured I could still catch some of the good snow the next day and indeed I did. I headed up to Breckenridge and got up into the high cirque on some of the steep stuff where the snow was untouched in some spots mostly because the crazy wind had blown it all over. Anyway it was all good and I only took one double whipper rag doll style as some of the wind blown snow got a bit of a crust on it and grabbed the front of my board... game over. It was a soft landing though and I was right back at it.

Today Christmas day I woke up watched a movie and exchanged texts with good friends wishing each other a Merry Christmas. Then it was off for an afternoon mountain bike ride. I was greeted by high winds heading out to the trail which had me leaning the bike into the wind at pretty much a 45 degree angle. I was feeling worked before I got to the trail but I knew it would be a tail wind heading back home so it was all good. The ride turned out to be muddy which is always fun! Then I cooked a good dinner (thanks for the Amish noodles Mom they were DELICIOUS! and the jerky is already about half gone).

Muddy Shoes
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijBAAoYVRCYDPVtyWYTjU9Qp-xgsOWQG6pn0fer6DWbajg_UjxOArQn23HB6MZdPQdsz7-gqcmKYqGiWonqot0Ee92KSnaiLj6qXXYl-4CUjUDW6MJBukBxcuNx9WLAzayhP0VAwPdXjfz/s320/DSCN0531.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5283972593780425570" />

Muddy Bike...
